Why Stainless Steel In Balustrade Is Corrosion Free?

Stainless steel suppliers in Melbourne are very busy now a day as the demand for steel is increasing day by day. The popularity of steel is mainly because of its corrosion resistant property that is making it popular across all industries.

Stainless steel in Balustrade is an alloy made up of metals like iron, chromium, manganese, silicon, and carbon. In many cases nickel and molybdenum is added to the alloy. These two elements react with oxygen from water and air and form a very thin stable film that consist metal oxides and hydroxides of these two metals. Chromium plays a dominant role in reacting with oxygen to form a corrosion product film. The presence of this stable film prevents further corrosion as it acts like a barrier. This barrier limits oxygen and water to react with the underlying metal surface. The film is formed readily and tightly such that the few atomic layers reduce the rate of corrosion to very low levels. The thin film is so thin that the steel that is corroded is in the atomic level and cannot be seen, this getting the look of stainless steel.

By definition, all stainless steel contain at least ten percent of chromium which makes them corrosion resistant and used in various fields.
